Effects of Optical Layer Protection Granularity in Survivable Hierarchical Optical Path Network

چکیده
This study compares the performances of waveband protection and wavelength path protection in survivable hierarchical optical path networks. Network costs and the number of switching operations necessary are evaluated for different ratios of protected demand. Numerical results demonstrate that waveband protection can drastically decrease the number of switching operations in the case of failure, while both waveband and wavelength path protection effectively reduce the network resources needed compared to single layer optical path networks. key words: hierarchical optical path network, waveband, survivability, protection

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Traffic grooming deals with efficiently packing/unpacking low-speed connections onto high-capacity trunks. We examine traffic grooming for optical mesh networks by reviewing grooming-node architectures, traffic models, grooming policies, novel graph models, survivable grooming, and hierarchical switching, etc. @2003 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.4250) Networks; (060.4510) Optical ...
متن کاملQoS-based Multiple Protection Schemes using the Multi-Granularity Optical Cross-Connect in Generalized MPLS Networks
Since the internet traffic will eventually be aggregated and carried over the core networks , it is imperative to address end-to-end QoS issues in optical GMPLS networks. With optical fiber bandwidth and node capacity increasing explosively, even a short network outrage lasting only a few seconds may cause several Gb of data to be lost if network equipment has interfaces at speed of 2.5Gbps or ...
متن کاملDynamic lightpath provisioning with signal quality guarantees in survivable translucent optical networks.
This paper studies the problem of signal-quality-guaranteed lightpath provisioning in survivable translucent optical networks under dynamic traffic. A new protection scheme, called regeneration-segment protection (RSP), is proposed. Provisioning approaches with shared path protection and shared RSP are presented. Two main signal quality constraints are integrated with the provisioning problem. ...
متن کاملAn Evolutionary Algorithm Approach for Dedicated Path Protection Problem in Elastic Optical Networks
Elastic Optical Network (EON) architectures are a very promising solution for next generation optical networks. In EON, a basic problem in network design and operation is the problem of Routing and Spectrum Allocation (RSA). In this work, we focus on RSA in a survivable EON with Dedicated Path Protection (DPP) consideration. Since RSA is a difficult problem itself, we develop an evolutionary al...
